This season of the Indian Premier League is not just awaited by the fans but also a few of the Indian cricketers who will look to perform better. No doubts that the IPL has become a platform where not just youngsters, but also senior players target to perform well in order to find a place in their national side.
With the 2019 World Cup just being one year away, all Indian cricketers are on a mission to prove their worth in the Indian side and cement their place in the World Cup squad. There are some cricketers who need to perform well and need to have a good IPL for their comeback. So let’s take a look at 5 Indian cricketers for whom this IPL season will be a make or break situation.
1. Suresh Raina
Recently Raina made his comeback to International cricket in the T20I series of India against South Africa. He looked in great form and even won the Man of the Match in the third T20I match. Raina is considered as one of the main contenders in the world cup squad, with all the immense experience and talent he has. At this point, IPL 2018 will be a huge opportunity for Raina to express himself and score as many runs as he can. He is back in yellow with the CSK team and the next thing he will be aiming for is a spot in the 2019 World Cup squad.
2. R Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin is undoubtedly India’s leading off-spinner, but recently he has struggled in the limited over format, in bowling defensive lines and taking wickets in the mid-overs. Due to his poor performance in the Champions Trophy he has been left out of the ODI team from 2017.
In IPL, Kings XI Punjab bought him for Rs.7.60 crores and they also appointed him as the captain of the side. This is the perfect platform for Ashwin to use IPL 11 to revive his career in limited overs cricket. He needs to take lots and lots of wickets for his team, as this performance and of course his experience will make him a strong contender for ICC World Cup 2019.
3. KL Rahul
The upcoming talented cricketer of Team India, KL Rahul had a good start with his consistent performances in Tests. He had become a regular member in the side in all three formats. But his inability to convert fifties into hundreds and give a good start as an opening batsman cost him his place. But here is a chance for Rahul who will represent the Kings XI Punjab where the opening batsman will look to score big. He was bought by KXIP for a whopping Rs. 11 crores.
The year 2016 for the cricketer was a phenomenal period playing domestically for Karnataka but 2017 was marred by injuries. This IPL 2018, he looks forward for the season with KXIP to take the responsibility as an opening batsman and give his best performance. KL has to make a promising impact in order to be in the Indian cricket ODI team.
4. Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja is considered as one of the finest all-rounders in the limited overs cricket format, for Team India. Even then, he lost his position in the Indian team because of his poor Champions Trophy 2017 performance. He is still considered as one of the best fielders around and ranks among the fittest players in world cricket.
In spite of being the go-to man for MS Dhoni in ODIs and Tests, Jadeja has been criticized for his failure in picking up wickets in the mid-overs, blowing flatter and not on attacking lines.
He has to perform in this IPL in order to make his presence felt to the selectors, otherwise spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal’s current top form would overshadow Jadeja and his hopes of returning to his position in the team.
5. Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh was a regular in the Indian One day International team till the 2011 World Cup triumph. Soon after which he was diagnosed with a rare germ cell Cancer. After successful treatment, he did make a comeback to the National squad but struggled to maintain a position. Yuvi last played for Team India in June 2017 in a ODI match. In a recent interview on the sidelines of the 18th Laureus World Sports Awards he said, “I am looking forward to a good IPL. It’s a very important tournament for me, as it will only set me to play cricket till 2019. I am looking to play cricket till 2019, whatever cricket I get to play and take a call after that.”
So this IPL it is a golden opportunity for the all-rounder, as his performance in the T20 tournament will keep him in the fray for a spot in the ICC World Cup 2019. Yuvraj will be playing for the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL 11.
