India first played an International Test match in 1932 against England at the ‘Home Of Cricket’, that is Lords. From there it took India 20 years to win their first International Test match which was against England. Since then the India-England Test match series have been iconic every time the two nations played each other.

86 years ago when Team India led by Col. CK Nayudu toured England, at that time no one must have really thought one day Cricket will become a religion in India and become a national obsession.

In the on-going England v India Test series, England have won the first match and are leading the series by 1-0. The 2nd Test will start from 9th August at Lords so let’s throw it back and revisit Team India’s iconic victories in Test matches at the Home Of Cricket and recall the memories.

England v India 2014, 2nd Test at Lords

One of the most recent iconic Test match victories on English soil of India versus England match has to be the victory in 2014 at the Lords. This was a very special and a memorable win as it was Team India’s Test match victory at the Home of Cricket, Lords Stadium after a wait of 28 long years. The hosts won the toss and put India to bat first. In the 2nd innings England had to chase 319 runs to win the Test match. But Ishant Sharma’s master-class bowling bounced out England’s batting at Lords. He picked up 7 wickets in the second innings with his exceptional short-pitched bowling and this helped India win the match by 95 runs.

England v India 1986, 1st Test at Lord’s

India’s maiden Test victory at Lords! This was a historic moment for all the people associated with Indian Cricket. Lord’s which is known as ‘Home Of Cricket’ is like a Mecca for cricketers and fans. A victory on this soil was awaited since a long time. After losing 8 matches and 2 draws, Team India were looking for a momentum.

In 1986 when Team India toured England, they went there as favourites. By now, India had established itself as one of the leading sides in the limited overs format after they won the World Cup and World Championship of Cricket. And therefore the main responsibility of Captain KapilDev and his men was to maintain the supremacy in Test cricket as well.

In the first innings when England batted, Chetan Sharma’s 5 wicket haul bowled them out for 294. When India came to bat, DilipVengsarkar scored his third century at Lords. His unbeaten 126 runs knock helped India to take a 47 runs lead. The second innings saw KapilDev’s classic swing bowling (4/52) and with this England were bowled out for only 180 odd runs. India now required 134 runs to win which was chased comfortably. And with this Team India created history with their 1st ever victory at Lords.

Once again Lords is the venue and once again Team India will take on the hosts England in their 2nd Test Match of the 5 match series. This time it’s Captain Kohli leading the Men In Blue for another exciting Test match.

Here’s wishing the Indian Cricket Team Good Luck for the match. Bharat Army like always will be in the stands to support and cheer for Team India.
