The 3rd Test of the England v India Test series at Trent Bridge certainly lived up to the drama of the first 2 matches. With Team India in a must win situation having lost the first two tests, Kohli could not have been happier when Joe Root decided to stick his team into bat.
Kohli’s intent was clear – India wanted to bat, put runs on the board and let the bowlers loose, and boy did Team India follow that script well!
This was a match where all departments came together in a clinical performance with the openers seeing through the new ball and laying the foundation of a respectable score in the first innings. We also saw the resurgence of Pujara and Rahane who by self-admission played uncharacteristic shots to get out in the first 2 tests to get out. They both batted beautifully with the skipper in both innings.
We saw another superb performance by the skipper in both innings scoring 200 runs in the match but more importantly leading from the front and showing the rest of the batsman how to apply themselves in difficult conditions.
And after some magic with the ball from Hardik Pandya In England’s first innings and a superb new ball spell by Jasprit late on day 4 – the match was all but won!
So how do we summarise this performance as Indian fans?
This performance has showed Team India have a never say die attitude. They could have very easily rolled over like the team from 2014 but the grit and determination along with mental application they showed was fantastic to see and was the key to this win.
Should we expect any changes for the 4th Test?
With the news of Shaw and Vihari being added to the squad in place of Vijay and Kuldeep you would expect the winning team of Trent Bridge to be retained for Ageas Bowl.
Ageas Bowl is traditionally a batting paradise with good bounce so the Toss will once again be the key with India looking to win it and put big runs on the board!
If the boys can apply themselves in a similar way to Trent Bridge we could be in for sensational climax to what has already been a fantastic series!
